S.V. RAJENDRA SINGH BABU

Rajendra Singh Babu, affectionately called as ‘BABU’ throughout the tinsel world, is a man who broke the shackles of convention, and found success. It was quite natural to a man who hails from a filmy background.

His father D Shankar Singh was a political sufferer and a freedom fighter. He had founded MAHATMA PICTURES a reputed banner which produced a plethora of memorable Kannada films. His mother Pratima Devi is an acclaimed actress. It is no wonder that Rajendra Singh Babu leant towards cinema in an early age. He worked in almost all the departments of film productions through MAHATMA PICTURES and gained expertise.

During 1973-74 Babu worked in the second unit of a Hollywood production house, which came to India for filming THE MIGHTY HIMALAYAN MAN Babu’s expertise and deep knowledge of the modern film making technique astounded the Hollywood experts.

Babu’s first directional venture NAGARA HOLE was a stupendous success, and was testimony to the genius of Babu who successfully crossed the conventional border.

He had visited many countries, like Russia, America, France, on invitation from the respective countries. His prowess and hold over the subject of film making was much appreciated across the international arena.

It is to the credit of Mr. Babu, that the University of Mysore invited and made him the chairman of the committee that is to look after the initiation of film study courses in its curriculum.

Many honors and distinction have adorned Rajendra Singh Babu. He was the member of script panel, Bangalore region of NFDC.

He was nominated by Government of Karnataka to be a member of International Film Festival of India- IFFI-92 which was held in Bangalore during 1992. He was a Director of Kantheerava Studios which is owned by Government of Karnataka. He was the jury member of Karnataka Film Awards selection committee during 1988-89. He was also a member of committee in Bangalore University on Film Education.

He has directed many movies. Prominent among them are “Nagarahole”, Antha”, Simhada Mari sainya’, ‘Bandhana, Muttina Hara’, Hoovu- Hannu’, ‘Maha Khyatriya’, ‘Mugaarina Minchu’, ‘Doni Saagali’. He has won many state and Nationala Awards.

Government of Karnataka had requested him to prepare a blue print for construction of Film City in the state. On the basis of the report submitted by Rajendra Singh Babu, action has been initiated for construction of Film city.

Rajendra Singh Babu is now serving as the chairman of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.
